Even the youngest consumers know that using the most expensive creams combined with an improper diet will not help keep healthy appearance. However, a possibility to supplement missing vitamins by using edible cosmetics has occurred on the marked only very recently.

 

Any lotions, oils, mousses, and body butters, not to mention tons of pills and other diet supplements, may disappear from the shop shelves in the near future, if nutricosmetics become popular among consumers.

Diet serum IO Beuty Booster flavoured with acai, goia berries and wild Australian mangosteen berries is extremely popular overseas. Adding natural juice, enriched with minerals and antioxidants, to yoghurts or fruit cocktails will probably give better and more lasting results than chemicals or plastic surgeries. Skin moisturizing and improving its elasticity from the inside has occurred in a form of chocolate snacks – Balance Nimble. On the other hand, reducing wrinkles will be definitely more “swallowable” thanks to jelly beans with skin rejuvenating properties.

 

The Borba company, when launching in 2004 the first nutricosmetic to the US market – flavoured water that was supposed to maintain appropriate level of minerals and hydration – needed to prove to everybody that it is not an utter whim but a response to the customers’ demands. Currently the market of beverages “for body” is worth circa 900 mln GBP, according to research conducted by Zenith International.

Finally a dream of millions chocaholics has come true – British scientists confirmed that eating chocolate has such an extensive influence on brain functions that dr Franz H. Messerli came up with a theory stating that there is a relationship between the amount of consumed chocolate in a selected country and the number of Noble Prize winners. Sweets containing flavoinoids of plant origin apart from protecting from insects and fungi have also the potential to slow down the process of cognitive abilities atrophy in human beings.

Nutricosmetics challenge also the perfume manufacturers. Bulgarian company Alpi, the producer of Deo Perfume Candy, patented sweets whose smell ingredients are emitted through skin. The secret of aromatic sweets is geraniol originated in essential oils, which is an ingredient of many types of perfume. A similar effect is achieved in chewing gums available in Japan, which not only refresh one’s breath but also the smell of the entire body. Does it mean that the consumers are now going to eat perfume instead of spraying them? Any way to hydrate the body and supplement required microelements is good, whether with the help of special flavoured water or diet supplements. It is probable that consumers will not feel convinced to use alternative methods of health and beauty care, but is does not mean that in the future we won’t keep our cosmetics in the fridge instead of bathroom. The question is, how nutricosmetics are going to be dealt with by packaging producers?
