Printing for the next 20 years. Oversees trends in printing.

Landa nanographic printing press was awarded among 700 products from 38 countries submitted to Good Design competition.

Good Design Competition has been organised since the 50’s, when three architects-founders (Earo Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames and Edgar Kaumann Jr.) recognised first innovative projects of international scope. Over the years the event had gained importance and among the winners one can find brands such as 3M, Apple, Bang & Olufsen, CISCO, Daimler, Lenovo, Logitech and Porsche. Landa Group has now joined the list, owing to the project of a cost-effective printing press for short-to-medium runs.

The jury appreciated the fact that the equipment offers the lowest price on the market for printing a single sheet as well as combines the versatility of digital printing with offset speed. It is possible due to the use of nanotechnology, which makes the colours richer and clearer, and the print can be applied on virtually any medium.During recent Drupa exhibition Benny Landa presented his latest solution for mainstream offset – nanographic printing. Although the potential of this innovation has not been explored yet, it is already collecting awards. This year the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in cooperation with the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies awarded Landa for the nanographic printing press.

The colourful future

Owing to the use of nano inks containing pigment molecules (as small as only 10 nanometers) reflecting more light, one obtains better colour quality, wider colour spectrum and better picture quality than in inkjet or offset printing (the dots  printed in nanography have smoother edges). “We designed the machine not only for short-to-medium runs, but also to introduce the innovative solution for common use. We believe that it is going to be used from 2013 until 2030, or even longer” – commented Benny Landa, CEO and the chairman of Landa. However, as the technology creator assured, nanographic printing has no intention of replacing offset on printing market, but its purpose is to fill the gap between offset (dedicated to long runs) and digital (for shorter runs). To prove it, Benny Landa has decided to share his machinery on a license with leading manufacturers of offset machines: Komori, manroland, Heidelberg and KBA. Apart from the use of future technology, the machine itself is characterised by modern design with 3-meter touch screen with an intuitive control panel. The characteristic frame surrounding the touch screen coloured in cyan is supposed to refer to Landa brand.

Editor's note

Who are we?

It protects, expands the expiry date, persuades. Packaging. Influenced by an intriguing design, often we decide to buy something on impulse, that wasn’t to be found on our shopping list. We are tempted by their beautiful forms, intrigued by embossed printing made by innovative, cutting-edge technology and by the use of unusual materials.
