The ink jet 1550 and 1650 printers are supposed to protect the manufacturers from incurring losses related to printing the wrong codes on the packaging.

During Emballage 2012 trade fair in Paris took place the world premiere of Videojet ink jet 1550 and 1650 printers. According to the producer, the new generation machines from 1000 line are answering the markets’ demand for user-friendly, effective printers, equipped with Code Assurance features to help reduce coding errors and ensure the right code on the right product. The printers were available for sale shortly before Christmas 2012. 

These printers are supposed to minimalize unplanned downtime through features like the patented CleanFlow™ printhead and Dynamic Calibration™ ink flow system. The problem with the ink build-up was solved by auto-cleaning function, meaning there are less frequent printhead cleanings and positive flow of filtered air for more reliable, clear and consistent codes, even at the end of long production runs. The unique printhead design and long-lasting core extends the working time up to 14,000 hours and minimalizes the risk of downtime between planned routine maintenance cycles. This way the printers improve uptime and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) what the customers notice on their production lines and through OEE measures. ę “Every company strives for 100 percent production line uptime. A recent survey by Videojet of customers representing over 400 1000 Line printers on active production lines showed an average 99.9 percent availability in the previous monthę, commented Swapan Chadhuri, general director Videojet Polska.

Merciless for errors

Beyond providing an Availability metric, new printers identify and eliminate the major root causes of unplanned downtime to improve it. They present downtime information in a logical way to support efficient and effective problem solving. Moreover they help in discovering technical and operator causes of downtime as well as preventing mistakes, keeping customer production lines productive and ensuring brand integrity. “Creating the Code Assurance system was an innovative idea, because it allows the access to the specific tools only during particular production stages what effectively reduces the amount of incorrectly applied codes and shows the exact place and time of making them”, added Joanna Saniewska from Videojet Polska. In addition the printers are equipped with user–friendly touchscreen interface, intelligent Smart Cartridge fluid system, which eliminates waste, mess and mistakes, and when it’s time for planned maintenance, along with the easily replaceable modular core system. New ink jet 1550 and 1650 printers are compact, compatible with most production lines, economic and dedicated to short run production. “It is a product that we missed in our portfolio, which will allow us to reach to more users”, summarized Joanna Saniewska.
